Colback Staying With Town Thu 31st Dec 2009 11:47
Boss Roy Keane says midfielder Jack Colback will be staying on loan with the Blues for the second half of the season, while he will also look to extend Stern John and Arran Lee-Barrett’s time at Portman Road. The Town manager is also looking at two or three further additions to his squad during January, while Tommy Smith and Troy Brown could be amongst those going out on loan.

Ten-man Town fell to a harsh 3-1 Boxing Day defeat at Crystal Palace. Jaime Peters put the Blues in front and Town were well on top until Jose Fonte’s equaliser was followed by referee Paul Taylor showing Jon Stead a hugely controversial red card just before the break. In the second half the numerical difference told and Palace netted through Neil Danns and Victor Moses.

Goals from Jon Stead, Jack Colback and Gareth McAuley took the Blues to a 3-1 win over Blackpool, out of the bottom three and extended their unbeaten run to 10 games. Stead curled home in the opening minute, Colback added the second before half-time and McAuley headed in the third after Ian Evatt had pulled one back for the Tangerines, who had David Vaughan sent off for two bookable offences late on.

Manager Roy Keane is again considering whether to make changes to his side ahead of high-flying Blackpool’s visit to Portman Road for the Blues’ third game in a week. Prior to the Peterborough match Keane said that he likes to freshen up his team when the games are coming thick and fast.

Town recorded a goalless draw despite dominating for the second successive game as bottom-of-the-table Peterborough left Portman Road with a point. The Blues thought they’d broken the deadlock just before half-time via Stern John’s header but referee Andy Hall ruled it out for a push. Moments later Hall also turned down what looked to be a very good Town call for a penalty.
